From October 4 to 6, 2024, the International Women Without Violence Foundation (WWVIF) and Fondazione Pangea Onlus, with the support of the RAJA-Danièle Marcovici Foundation, organized an international conference in Matera alongside the G7. This event aimed to address and eliminate sexual violence and femicides affecting women worldwide.
Over the course of these three days, experts from diverse regions — India, Pakistan, South America, Iraq, Poland, France, and Italy — engaged in in-depth analysis of the effectiveness of laws, public policies, and international conventions designed to combat these crimes. Beyond raising alarming concerns, the conference allowed for the formulation of concrete recommendations aimed at ending the global prevalence and impunity of these crimes. This joint declaration, signed by all the NGOs, associations, and individuals in attendance, serves as a solemn call to action and accountability for governments and international organizations, particularly the United Nations. It represents a collective commitment to continue and intensify the fight against sexual violence and femicides in a coordinated and ambitious framework.
Through this declaration, the signatories underscore the urgent need to strengthen legislative and policy frameworks, ensure the rigorous enforcement of existing laws, and develop effective mechanisms for prevention and justice.
